In its pursuit to enhance microgravity science, technology, and exploration in low Earth orbit, NASA held two stakeholder workshops in London and Washington. These events, which took place on September 6 and September 13, aimed to gather feedback from the international community, encompassing NASA’s global partners, the American industry, and academic circles.

In late August, the agency unveiled a draft of 42 objectives, inviting feedback from U.S. industry, academia, international partners, NASA staff, and more. This collaborative approach aims to shape a comprehensive framework for future human activities in low Earth orbit, with finalization expected this winter. The objectives cover six key areas: science, research and technology that enable exploration, commercial infrastructure in low Earth orbit, operations, international partnerships, and workforce and public engagement.

“Charting the future of human exploration requires the insights and expertise of our diverse stakeholders,” stated NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy. “The workshops offer a crucial platform for stakeholders to contribute their perspectives, aiding in the development of a strategy that embodies our collective aspirations for space exploration’s future.”

Consultation plays a crucial role in NASA’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Microgravity Strategy, highlighting the significance of cooperative efforts and the incorporation of varied viewpoints to propel scientific inquiry and technological progress in low Earth orbit. Through proactive engagement with stakeholders, such as scientists, industry collaborators, and academic entities, NASA seeks to acquire essential perspectives and synchronize its goals with the expansive ambitions of the space sector.

“By engaging with a diverse range of perspectives, we can access innovative concepts that will improve our missions,” declared Robyn Gatens, the director of the International Space Station and acting director of Commercial Spaceflight. “Such collaboration not only fortifies our ongoing projects but also establishes a solid foundation for future progress in space exploration.”
